Sustainability usually refers to the limited usage of resources so humans can maintain life on Earth in the most orderly way possible. The notion the specific definition of sustainability can vary depending on what of the three dimensions are being discussed, also know as the Pillars: Environmental, economic, and social. The notion of Sustainability can be used to make important decisions within the lines of global, national, and individual extent. When one refers to Sustainability, most people reference it to the environmental use of sustainability as most people believe that it’s the most important and endangered.

WHAT IS SUSTAINABILITY?

Sustainability is a societal goal that broadly aims for humans to safely co-exist on planet Earth over a long time. Specific definitions of sustainability are difficult to agree on and therefore vary in the literature and over time. The concept of sustainability can be used to guide decisions at the global, national, and individual level. Sustainability is commonly described along the lines of three dimensions (also called pillars): environmental, economic, and social. Many publications state that the environmental dimension (also referred to as "planetary integrity" or "ecological integrity") should be regarded as the most important one. Accordingly, in everyday usage of the term, sustainability is often focused on the environmental aspects.

HOW DO HUMANS CONTRIBUTE TO EARTH:

Good human impacts on the environment include reforestation, using clean energy, and protecting natural preserves and forests to maintain the natural biodiversity. Protection of habitats and even supporting protected growth of endangered species has allowed for some ecosystems to survive or prolong survival.

Buy less plastic and bring a reusable shopping bag. Use long-lasting light bulbs. Energy efficient light bulbs reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Also flip the light switch off when you leave the room!

Some of the major positive ways humanity contributes to the environment include reforestation, hydroelectric and solar panel use, recycling, water and energy, anti-poaching protests, restricted usage of natural resources, and much more. Some common yet helpful ways Humans contribute Mother Earth broadly consist of buying reusable shopping bags, turning off lights after leaving a room, spreading environmental awareness, riding bikes more and saving on petrol and gasoline, buying less plastic, buying long lasting light bulbs so you can cut down on having to buy more expensive energy, community

Being a sustainable brand also means that your products is made with the finest and most natural substances and is extracted legitimately, which is also referred to as green washing.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A SUSTAINABLE BRAND?

In skincare and beauty, sustainability means having recyclable packaging, reducing the use of single-use plastics, carefully selecting non-toxic ingredients, ensuring product safety, and decreasing the carbon footprint from manufacturing to delivery.

How to Make a Product Sustainable. Use reclaimed, post-industrial grades of plastic instead of virgin materials when possible. Reduce the amount of material needed through part design.

Green beauty refers to beauty products that are sourced, produced, and packaged in an ethical and sustainable way that's kind to the planet. Sadly, a fair amount of foul play goes on when it comes to brands claiming to be eco-friendly. Because terms like "green", "clean", and "natural" are subjective and not regulated

In the industry of Beauty, skincare and wellness, sustainability mainly refers to the reduced usage of single use plastics, safety confirmed products, origins of products, method of extraction, recycling and minimalizing the carbon footprint of the product from its manufacturing to its delivery.

In final, being a sustainable brand means being completely environmentally friendly, and reducing the creation of harmful products and packaging.

OUR MISSION + VISION

We are committed to doing the best we can, and every step of the way, we are working towards been a 100% eco responsible brand. We make no claims of perfection, in-fact we are rather all about transparency than perfection and take our environmental journey, impact and responsibilities to you, and to our planet seriously, and we will do all we reasonably can to minimise our impact.

We don’t believe in trendy skincare jargon. At Philosophia Botanica we don’t make false promises, nor do we just claim a social conscience out of marketing; we are on a journey, we are constantly searching and researching ways to be greener, to be more sustainable, to waste less, to conserve water, because we believe in wellness, and we believe in respecting the beautiful world we live in.

HERE'S WHERE WE ARE AT AND WHERE WE ARE GOING:

Going fully sustainable as a small independent brand is complicated as we are at the mercy of manufacturers, supply chain, big industry and technology. Nevertheless, we will always be transparent about this, and not because it’s trendy, but because it’s the right thing to do.

Our shipping and packaging are changing! By the end of the year, we will be making the switch to fully recyclable packaging and launch a ‘Back to PB’ recycling project to create awareness and encourage our customers, Spas and Wellness centers to recycle their empties.

Philosophia Botanica is more than just a brand but rather a journey into wellness.

Retreats, adaptogenic tonics, botanical oils, self-care kits and rituals.  We will continue to find ways to respect the eco-systems around us; we will continue to find better ways to recycle and re-use our resources; we will continue to love our planet unconditionally and to be forever advocates of wellness and sustainability.

Right now, we are looking at opening our very own eco-lab in Italy and at planting seeds in South Africa with the opening of a fully sustainable medicinal mushroom farm.

Come and enjoy the journey with us.
